Heuvelland

Relax in the heart
of Heuvelland

Wide landscapes and magnificent views. Heuvelland is one of the most beautiful regions in Belgium.

In the neighbourhood

Go on an adventure with the whole family. The youngest among us can have the time of their lives in the Kosmos play area, some 50 metres from the holiday home.

There is a bakery and a grocery shop within walking distance, so you do not have to miss your fresh bread in the morning. For a visit to a pub or a delicious snack in a restaurant you do not have to go far: there are many cosy pubs and eating places around Victorello.

You can visit numerous vineyards and taste various regional wines. Tip: be sure to visit the whisky bar and cigar lounge on the Zwarteberg.

Walking paths, cycle networks and mountain bike routes are all around. Maps are available in Victorello. Rental bikes and vespas are nearby, or all-terrain e-steps in Kemmel.

Spend a day with the whole family at an amusement park: Bellewaerde (20 km) or Plopsaland (40 km), or visit the Belgian coast: sea and beach (40 km).

Visit the surrounding towns: Ypres, Poperinge and Lille.

Nature

Situated on the Rodeberg, Victorello holiday home is the perfect base for cycling and walking enthusiasts. The Hellegat forest is located 100 metres from the holiday home. There you can take long walks and there is also the Kosmos Rodeberg playground where children can play for hours.

Also visit Domein De Warande. The park is an excellent walking area with many open spaces and a rich assortment of plants. Conquer the Sulferberg and the Kemmelberg and be amazed by the fantastic landscapes, or visit De Commandobunker in Kemmel: for over an hour and a half you dive into the belly of the Kemmelberg, a site full of secret missions, invisible enemies and an omnipresent tension that leaves no one untouched.

The nature and forest agency will point you to all the green spots around the house.

Local products

You will cycle or walk past them anyway: countless vineyards and wine estates where wine growers produce the best wines with a lot of passion. On the sloping flanks of the Belgian hill country, between the Rodeberg and the Zwarteberg, you will find some of the most idyllic vineyards in Belgium.

For the best Picon you have to be in Heuvelland. Picon is a caramel-coloured bitter liqueur that can be drunk pure as an appetizer and is excellent mixed with beer or white wine. You must certainly have tasted it during your stay.

Music

There is music in Heuvelland. Every year in August the largest folk festival in Europe comes to the charming village of Dranouter. What began as a garden party grew into one of the most colourful music festivals for the whole family. The festival grounds are only 4 km from Victorello. A real must for anyone who loves folklore and entertainment.

And we stay in a folk mood, because 2 km from the house you can enjoy free performances at music centre 't Folk.

Enjoy the sunrise

A south-facing holiday home with a view of the Kemmelberg. From the terrace you watch the sun come up over Heuvelland.

Tip: with the Westhoek discount pass you discover the best activities in the region at a reduced rate.

'14-'18

We still fall silent when we think back to the Great War. Dozens of villages in Heuvelland were wiped off the map and casualties were countless. And even though it is more than 100 years ago, you still find remnants of the First World War in our region: military cemeteries, memorials, trenches and more.

If you want to relive history or reflect on WWI, you can visit the Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, follow the trail of French soldiers on the mapped out walk 'The Battle of the Kemmelberg', explore the command bunker under the Kemmelberg or visit Wytschaete Military Cemetery. And actually we could go on for quite a while listing all the activities related to the First World War. Something you should definitely not miss out on.

Cyclists will certainly find a route to their liking here. We have to admit it is a lot of up and down, but after every effort you are richly rewarded with formidable panoramas. Would you rather take it easy? Then choose a quiet but equally idyllic cycling route.

You can store your own bicycle in the covered bicycle shed or in the closed garden of the holiday home. Would you rather rent a bike, or have rental bikes delivered to Victorello? Contact us in good time.
